SB 1475 – Keeping Schools Safe and Fair
Senator Mark Finchem introduced SB 1475 to protect students and maintain fairness in school activities. Participation in interscholastic sports and extracurriculars is a privilege, not a right.
SB 1475 bars students convicted of serious crimes from participating in interscholastic activities. This protects other students and reinforces accountability for criminal behavior.
Schools should be places of safety and character development. Allowing serious offenders to represent schools sends the wrong message.
Finchem introduced SB 1475 because protecting students must come before preserving appearances.
