SB 1075: Protecting Arizona Land from Foreign Influence

PHOENIX — As foreign purchases of land in the U.S. attract national security concerns, Senator Mark Finchem’s recently introduced SB 1075 would require legislative approval before foreign entities can acquire Arizona real estate.

This bill places an important check on foreign ownership by involving lawmakers — elected representatives accountable to Arizonans — in decisions that could affect the state’s land base. The move mirrors similar measures in other states that have grown wary of transactions that could lead to loss of control over critical resources or strategic sites.

Protecting Arizona’s sovereignty, economic security, and local interests is a critical issue for the legislature. Arizona cannot afford to let countries like China buy up our farms, ranches, and communities parcel by parcel. By requiring review and approval by the Arizona Legislature, SB 1075 ensures that significant land deals are transparent and consider the long-term interests of Arizonans by keeping foreign purchasing schemes out.

Finchem’s SB 1075 will secure Arizona’s future, geography, and economy to be shaped by Arizona citizens and elected officials.
