Arizona Senate Passes SB1434 Protecting Attorneys from Political Lawfare

The Arizona Senate has passed SB1434, legislation co-sponsored by Senator Mark Finchem to ensure attorneys facing disciplinary proceedings have access to fundamental constitutional protections.

SB1434 guarantees that attorneys accused of misconduct related to their legal advocacy may request a jury trial rather than having disciplinary proceedings decided solely by bar authorities or administrative panels.

Supporters say the legislation protects legal professionals from politically motivated disciplinary actions and reinforces due process protections within Arizona’s legal system.

Senator Finchem co-sponsored the bill as part of a broader effort to counter what supporters describe as “lawfare” targeting conservative attorneys and legal advocates.

The bill passed the Arizona Senate on March 4 and now moves forward in the legislative process.
