BREAKING: Senator Finchem leads charge to shield Arizona kids from harm from irreversible gender transition surgeries and hormone treatments – SB1095 advancing out of committee

Senator Mark Finchem introduced SB 1095 because children are being subjected to life-altering medical procedures that they cannot fully understand and can never undo. Across the country, minors have been placed on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical paths with permanent consequences.

SB 1095 prohibits irreversible gender transition procedures for minors while allowing counseling and psychological care to continue. The bill draws a clear distinction between helping children and permanently altering their bodies before they are capable of informed consent.

Medical caution is not cruelty. European countries that once embraced these practices are now reversing course after reviewing long-term data and harm to patients. SB 1095 reflects that same evidence-based restraint.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate Republicans are advancing legislation to block irreversible gender transition procedures on minors, drawing a firm line to protect children from permanent medical interventions before they can fully comprehend the lifelong consequences. The measure responds to growing concerns over the physical and psychological harm caused by experimental and irreversible treatments performed on children.

SB 1095, sponsored by Senator Mark Finchem, prohibits medical professionals from performing or referring minors for irreversible gender transition surgeries, as well as the use of puberty blockers or hormone treatments. The bill includes limited exceptions for rare medical conditions and emergency situations. Additionally, it establishes enforcement provisions to hold medical providers accountable for any violations. Unfortunately, all Senate Democrats voted against this measure during today’s committee hearing.

“Children shouldn’t be subjected to irreversible medical procedures that permanently alter their bodies and lives,” said Senator Finchem. “SB 1095 makes it clear that these procedures on minors are unacceptable, establishes firm penalties for those who violate the law, and puts an end to practices that cause lasting harm. This legislation is about drawing a hard line, enforcing accountability, and protecting children from decisions that cannot be undone. This bill would put an end to medical abuse of children, hold medical providers accountable, and stop dangerous, unproven experiments on minors.”

SB 1095 continues to the Senate Floor as Republican lawmakers consider safeguards for minors.
