Finchem Advances SB 1152 to Enforce Immigration Law and Protect Your Tax DOllars

Senator Mark Finchem is pushing back against illegal immigration with SB 1152, a bill that strengthens verification requirements for public benefits and closes loopholes that have allowed abuse of taxpayer funds.

SB 1152 requires proof of lawful presence before state or local public benefits can be issued. It also blocks benefits for individuals with pending asylum claims until a judge formally grants asylum. This ensures Arizona does not become a magnet for illegal immigration.

The bill directs state and local agencies to verify immigration status and report violations of federal law. Employees who fail to do so can face criminal penalties. Agencies that ignore the law can be taken to court by Arizona residents.

SB 1152 is clear and firm. Public benefits are not a right for illegal aliens. They are paid for by Arizona taxpayers and should go only to those who are lawfully here.

Finchem has made border security and immigration enforcement a priority because weak enforcement puts public safety at risk and strains schools, hospitals, and social services. SB 1152 draws a hard line and sends a message that Arizona will enforce the law and defend its citizens.
