HB2158: I’ve received a number of emails and calls about the SB1390/HB2158 package to extend the Prop 301 Sales Tax for Education. I share the concern about education funding and the teacher shortage. I am inclined to support the proposed SB1390/HB2158 additional rate package. HB-2003, the bill to eliminate transaction privilege tax (TPT) on coal used to generate electricity to our growing population passed out of the House on a party-line vote. While we see a move to on-demand electric generation, we also see that a 100% renewable electric generation world is not attainable. This bill contributes to the effort to keep Navajo Generating Station (NGS) operating, and baseload power flowing to our homes and businesses. Why Does NGS Matter?

The Navajo Generating Station (NGS) is an important component in the generation of what is called “base-load” electricity.  Base-load is that electricity generated when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining.  It is the energy that is always at the ready when we have hot summers and want the air conditioning on, that keeps our manufacturers manufacturing, and it is that energy that pushes water uphill in Arizona.

EPA’s Clean Power Plan will raise energy prices by 45%

No this is not fear mongering, it is fact as reported by multiple sources.  The EPA has been taking comments on their new regulations and the comment period ends this weekend on November 31. The EPA “Clean Power Plan” creates the appearance of a problem to solve, then proposes a solution that will put Arizona infrastructure at risk and destroy family budgets. The EPA Clean Power plan (carbon rules) are a massive cost addition in to consumers already stressed daily living expenses.
